YuppTV launched its services in April last year first in metro cities, and then expanded to other cities. It offered its digital streaming services for free for a few months, with plans to introduce its ad-free subscription model. The streaming provider also offered a set-top box, which allowed users to connect it to a normal TV set. The service, charges its users a month in advance and then on a pro-rata basis, depending on the date of subscription and also offers a free 7 day trial. Its Hindi packs are priced at $10 and $15 monthly. The YuppTV India site offers daily, weekly and monthly passes for Rs 5, Rs 30 and Rs 100 respectively.
Funding: YuppTV had raised $2.5 million from angel investor Sashi Reddi, who also picked up 10% stake in the company, in April last year. At that time, the company claimed to have over 6 million users, though the number of paid users were low.
